Acne Treatments and Products: The Truth

It is no secret that there are thousands of acne treatments available all over the world. And while I emphasise in my posts that the key is to target the underlying cause, I must also advise that treatments are still effective in fighting the symptoms themselves.

Allow me to clarify. Cleansing your body of toxins and maintaining a healthy pH balance is the only way to entirely prevent acne symptoms from occuring and will also eliminate infected blemishes. However, in the time from starting your diet change until the healthy level is reached (and even on an ongoing basis), acne treatments can help minimise your acne symptoms, and in some cases are good for your skin anyway.

The Psychology of Acne

Acne can be a debilitating condition even with mild attacks. You feel as though you don’t fit in and that everyone is going to notice the blemishes straight away. You become so self conscious of them that you cover up what you can with clothes or makeup and anything that is still showing you cover with your hand or by looking away from whoever you are speaking to.

I studied Psychology for over 2 years and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) for another year. NLP, to simplify, is the language of the brain. This has allowed me to understand how the human mind experiences the outside world.

Achieving pH Balance

Now that we have established that pH is the most critical cause of acne, you may be thinking “Ok, but how do I attain a healthy pH balance in my body?”

The first step is to measure your pH level. You can buy packs of pH test strips from some chemists but I find it easier to purchase online. I use Alkalive Ph Test Stix. They come at a good price for 80 strips and are very easy to use. I buy mine from Amazon.com

The ideal pH level for a body is between 6.75 and 7.25 and bare in mind that this will change very quickly (hours). Each person will require a different amount of change in their diets according to their size, weight, age, and starting pH level.

What Causes Acne? Behind The Science

In my last post I gave an overview of the science behind the development of acne in the skin. Now while that science is the process that forms acne on the skin, there is a much deeper cause that most people aren’t aware of.

Behind The Science:
What most people are yet to discover (and scientists either aren’t aware of or haven’t announced publicly) is that acne is the result of unhealthy toxins building up in the body. People generally put all kinds of unhealthy food and drinks with little or no nutritional value into their body and while the body can process a certain amount of toxins, this overloads the its digestive process and causes the toxins to be disposed of throughout the body.

What Causes Acne? The Science

The first thing to understand is that acne is a consequence of an underlying health issue. A healthy body does not allow the growth of acne. Once this is understood, everything else I tell you will become clearer.

On the skin surface, there are glands that produce an oily substance called sebum which is used to moisturize the skin and hair. During adolescence, when hormones are at their highest, these glands (sebaceous glands) enlarge and produce excess sebum.
