Acne Treatment For Oily Skin
Treating oily skin can be a nightmare. All you want is the perfectly clear skin that so many people take for granted, but for some reason your skin is always oily. You may even have tried products that others have used and had disappointing results. Your skin may have special needs, and you will have to cater to these needs to get the results you want.
What Causes Oily Skin?
Some people are just born with oily skin. Others experience an increase in the oiliness of their skin when they reach adolescence. This period of life is known for its predisposition to acne, but some get it worse than others. Some individuals may have had oily skin before adolescence made their skin condition worse but, either way, you have probably figured out by now that if you have oily skin then you are more likely to have problems related to acne.
The ‘oil’ on the skin is produced by the sebaceous glands, and this oil is referred to as sebum. It is important to note, as some of you will already know, that you do not just have these glands in your face. They are also present in your neck, chest, back, legs, arms, and other bodily regions, but the glands in some areas of skin are more active than others.
One of the body parts that is most affected by this oil production is the nose. The pores that exist on the nose are larger and they help to disperse the sebum to the nose and the rest of the face. The nose is the place where an excess of oil can easily be produced, and then that oil can build up. A build up of oil can easily cause problems with acne, in addition to the more common ‘blackheads’.
Adolescence
During adolescence this problem can get worse. Adolescence is the period when the number of androgens, or sex hormones, increase in the body. This increase then triggers the sebaceous glands to increase oil production, which, in turn, leads to the well-known prevalence of acne and other inflammations.
Caring For Oily Skin
In truth, dirt and oil do not directly cause acne. They can, however, block pores and allow for the build up of bacteria, which can adversely affect the skin. Ideally, you should wash your skin twice daily to clear away excess oil. A simple cream wash can do this for you, but you need to find one that will not dry out your skin too much, and if you can find a good scrub or exfoliator then you can wash the dead skin cells away at the same time.
You also want to avoid oil based cosmetic products. They can make a bad situation worse. Similarly, you must be careful with any lotions or moisturizers. They too may add to the problems associated with oily skin.
Acne treatment for oily skin is not a simple matter. You need to find the right method to remove enough of the oil in your skin without over drying the area. Too much oil can block pores and worsen acne, but not enough can create problems of its own. Finding the right balance will help you to enjoy clear skin, even if it is somewhat oily.

I have been having the oily nose for years now. I have tried all types of astringent, lotions for oily skin etc but it has not helped. I have a nose where there are white heads popping out from the pores & they leave ugly pores which are visilbe.
i would be grateful if you could suggest a simple way of treatment for this kind of a problem.
Thanks
David.

The Made from Earth ROsehip & Hibiscus Face Serum is perfect for my skin. My chin, forehead and especially my nose tend to be oily, but the rest of my face can be really dry. Anything I use to prevent or reduce acne generally dries out my face. I haven’t been able to find this moisturizer at my regular stores lately, so I used another brand’s moisturizer (Dove, I believe), and my face started breaking out by the next day. I’ve read other reviews where people said this moisturizer makes their skin softer than it’s ever been. I guess it just really depends on your skin type. They should sell cheaper samples, so people can try out these kind of products. Oh well. I’m just glad to find it on their website – if your looking for it its: http://www.madefromearth.com.

Hey nice blog here. One thing thuogh I don’t see many people talking about cheap and effective home remedies for acne. Tomato slices, turmeric, papaya juices and home made packs will treat existing pimples and prevent further problems. What do you think about this?

This information was very helpful. John, I would like to know about more home remedies that are effective. My skin is worse now than it was when I was in high school and is very frustrating. I think it has something to do with the hormones I am on and the stress I deal with. I have an oily T zone and evidently this has extended in the last couple years into an oily “every” zone, specifically my cheeks, nose, forehead and lately the top of my chest and upper back. I do not use makeup and would like to rid my skin of the blemishes but am tired of using the Proactiv but the Ivory soap is making an impact as is the witch hazel.
What are people’s thoughts on Vitamin A increased intake, not in the form of supplement but rather increased intake of foods that are known to be good in Vitamin A such as carrots and romaine lettuce.

People with oily skin need to be more careful as they are usually prone to acne. Apart from oil control face wash and sunscreen, they should also use mint based toner. The TimeWise 3-In-1 Cleanser by Mary Kay is ideal for oily skin. Try to wash your face at least twice a day. The Mary Kay Facial Cleansing Cloths are also very handy.

I have been trying for years to find the right moisturizer for my skin, which despite being super oily and prone to breakouts, dries up and flakes in certain areas. It’s been so severe that I have not been able to wear make-up, because it would just accentuate it.
From the first day I used the Vitamin Enhanced Moisturizer (from the Made from Earth skincare line), the problem was eradicated. It was heavy but NOT oily, and the dry spots were gone! Not only that, but my skin was wonderfully clear and soft.
After I ran out of this, I tried using a more expensive Estee Lauder cream, and the dryness was back in a few days. Yes, the price tag is a bit steep, and as some reviewers have mentioned, but its is HYPOallergic and worth it to avoid any reactions – perfect for those of us like me with ULTA sensitive skin.
Definitely give it a try is you have tried everything and nothing seems to work – This moisturizer is well worth looking into!

I have very sensitive skin thats very oily, I’ve tried every type of acne medication there is. I eat pretty healthy, no junk food. And i excercise frequently. I have tried medications such as benzoyl peroxide both 2.5 and 10% as well as salicylic acid 0.5 and 2%. I’ve been to the dermatologist and they have perscribed me expensive treatments that dont work. I have had this problem since the 6th grade and so far no hope. I am desperate for a cure, any advice?

he Made from Earth Green Tea Cleanser not only leaves my face feeling clean (but not dry) it has totally eliminated the mild to moderate breakouts I’d been suffering from for the past year.
I tried the Made from Earth cleanser after reading online reviews, and after only 3 months, have seen major improvement (read: not one zit for over 4 wks) Admittedly it is not an overnight miracle, but it did work eventually.
I use this product 2x per day (a.m and p.m), and for my night ritual I use a disposal exfoliating sponge to help remove my makeup, followed by the Rosehip & Hibiscus face Serum (also by Made from Earth).

Women should also remember that acne can be as a result of Polycystic ovaries and an over production of androgens (male hormones e.g. testosterone). Hence it is important to not only treat the acne, but the cause of it.

Thank you so much! I love this article because it tells you how that oil can build-up and form. And from this article I learned that you want to atleast clean your face 2 times a day…(3 times work for me better) And by time it goes away! I reccomend that you should use this: Stridex Dual Solutions. It has cleansing pads and gel. It works great! It is of-course oil free! It is for intensive acne repair. You can also get it for very very terrible acne. It works great! I use the cleansing pads in the morning, afternoon, and night. And at night i use the cleansing pads and the gel. The cleansing pads have this certian kind of chemical (Not chemical but i just couldnt find the right word.) And it absorbs into your skin at night when you are sleeping and is sorta like a sealer because it blocks any kind of oily substance from getting near your skin. Than the gel works amazing because it lowers down your pimples. And in a weeks time its not there anymore! But that is only how it works on my skin. But it works on others skin too, ive recomended this to severeal other middle-schoolers and their face is amazing now and they said that they love me for finding a acne solution that works great for them and others! :) Im 12 years old I know how it feels to be teased alot at school because you have pimples on your face. But than I used Stridex and it actually turned my entire life around to say so myself! Now my skin is so clear and fresh, I love it, and REMEMBER!: Even though it is gone or is leaving, you still will always want to keep using it daily and nightly to prevent those horrible nightmares from coming back to your beautiful face. I really do hope I could help!:)
Thanks so much for the article!
Sincerly,
Allyson
